Connect your Etsy shop to Claude or ChatGPT and you can type "why isn't my shop selling?" and get an answer built from your own views, favorites and sales, read listing by listing.
Quick answer: Yes, you can connect an Etsy shop to ChatGPT or Claude. Playground Sandbox links your seller accounts (Etsy, Printify, Printful and RankHero) to Claude or ChatGPT, so you can run your shop by chatting. Add https://playgroundai.com/mcp as a custom connector, then click Connect on Etsy in Playground and hit Grant access. About two minutes, no API key, no code.
Start here: Playground's Connectors page.
Is this the same as Etsy's ChatGPT app?
No. Etsy's own app in ChatGPT is for shoppers: it lets buyers search Etsy listings inside a chat. It doesn't let sellers manage a shop. Playground Sandbox is the seller side, reading your shop data and editing the listings you approve. Sellers mix these up constantly, and there's a third one in the mix too.
| Who it's for | What it does | Status (October 2026) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Etsy's app in ChatGPT | Shoppers | Tag @Etsy in a chat to search listings, then buy on Etsy's site | Beta since May 2026 |
| ChatGPT Instant Checkout | Shoppers | Bought Etsy items without leaving ChatGPT | Launched September 2025, paused by OpenAI in March 2026 |
| Playground Sandbox | Sellers | Reads your shop data, fixes listings, builds drafts, makes designs | Live, works in Claude and ChatGPT |
Etsy's own app helps buyers find you. It won't tell you why a listing stalled or rewrite your tags. That's the seller side, and that's what this post covers.
What is Playground Sandbox?
Playground Sandbox links your seller accounts (Etsy, Printify, Printful and RankHero) to Claude or ChatGPT, so you can run your shop by chatting. You type what you want. The assistant works on your stores through Playground, and makes designs in Playground's editor when a job calls for one.
Playground is an AI design tool built for print-on-demand and Etsy sellers: templates, AI image generation and a full design editor in one place. Try it free.
Everything sits under Sandbox in Playground's left sidebar, split into two pages: Connectors, where you link stores, and Jobs, a menu of ready-made tasks that open in Claude or ChatGPT with your shop already loaded.
It's getting real use. Every month, sellers make thousands of listing edits, create hundreds of draft listings and upload thousands of listing photos to Etsy through Sandbox, all by chatting.
This post covers the Etsy side. For every connector in one place, start with the Sandbox setup guide.
What do you need to connect Etsy to ChatGPT or Claude?
You need an Etsy shop (a brand-new one with zero listings works), a free Playground account, and Claude or ChatGPT on a computer for the one-time setup. Claude works on any plan, while ChatGPT needs a paid plan for Developer mode. Printify is optional, but it's required for creating new products.
- An Etsy shop. Even a brand-new one with zero listings works. There's a job for that.
- A Playground account. Free to start.
- Claude or ChatGPT on a computer for the one-time setup.
- Printify (optional, but you'll want it). Etsy alone covers reading, fixing and rewriting. Building new products needs Printify connected as well.
Which assistant plan you need:
| Claude | ChatGPT | |
|---|---|---|
| Plan | Any plan. Free allows one custom connector | A paid plan, since Developer mode isn't on Free |
| Where to add it | Customize → Connectors → + → Add custom connector | Turn on Developer mode in Settings → Security and login, then add it under Plugins |
| Phone app | Works once added on a computer | Add it on a computer first |
How do you connect Etsy to Claude or ChatGPT?
Connecting Etsy takes three steps and about two minutes: add Playground to your assistant as a custom connector with https://playgroundai.com/mcp, click Connect on the Etsy card in Playground and grant access on Etsy's own screen, then test it with one prompt in a fresh chat. Every step has a screenshot.
Step 1: Add Playground to Claude or ChatGPT
Already did this for another connector? Skip to Step 2. Otherwise, pick your assistant and follow the matching steps. Do it on a computer (browser or desktop app). Once it's set up, the phone apps use the same connection.
In Claude
- Open Settings. Click the Settings gear in Claude's sidebar. Newer versions of Claude moved this to Customize → Connectors, and the buttons are the same from there.

- Click Add. Find the Connectors section and click Add in the top right. (In newer versions it's + Add, then Add custom connector.)

- Name it and paste the URL. Type Playground AI as the name, paste
https://playgroundai.com/mcpinto the server URL field, and click Continue.

- Scroll down and click Add. A screen full of options comes up. Leave them all alone, scroll to the bottom and click Add.

- Click Connect. Playground AI now shows in your connector list. Click Connect next to it.

- Sign in to Playground. A Playground window pops up. Sign in if you need to, then click Connect to authorize.

- Switch it to Always Allow. Open Connectors, click Playground AI, and change Needs Approval to Always Allow. Otherwise Claude asks permission for every single step. Changes to your shop still wait for your yes in the chat.

On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, an organization owner has to add custom connectors first. Ask yours to add https://playgroundai.com/mcp, then you just click Connect.
In ChatGPT (needs a paid ChatGPT plan)
- Open Settings. Click your profile icon in the bottom left corner, then Settings.

- Turn on Developer mode. Go to Security and login and flip the Developer mode toggle on. Without it, ChatGPT won't let you add outside tools.

- Go to Plugins. Open Settings again, then Plugins, then Browse plugins.

- Add the Playground plugin. Click + in the top right, type PlaygroundAI as the name, paste
https://playgroundai.com/mcp, check the box saying you understand, and click Create.

- Connect and sign in. Click Connect. A Playground sign-in window opens. Sign in if needed, then connect.

- Allow all actions. Under Permissions, change Always Ask to Allow all actions so you're not clicking approve on every step.

Step 2: Connect Etsy inside Playground
Open the Connectors page while signed in to Playground. Under Connections, find the Etsy card ("Publish your designs as listings in your Etsy shop") and click Connect.

Etsy opens its own screen that says "Playground would like to connect to your account." You sign in on Etsy's site, not ours, so Playground never sees your Etsy password. The screen spells out what you're allowing: seeing all your listings (expired ones included), creating and editing listings, seeing private shop info, and updating your shop. Click Grant access and you land back on Playground with the card showing Connected.

Step 3: Test it
Start a fresh chat and paste this:
Use Playground to give me a snapshot of my Etsy shop.
You should get your shop name back with a read of your listings. Running more than one shop? Ask it to list your shops first and tell it which one you mean.
That's the whole setup. The fun part starts now.
What can ChatGPT or Claude do with your Etsy shop?
With Etsy connected through Playground Sandbox, Claude or ChatGPT can read every listing's views, favorites and sales, rewrite titles and tags, create draft listings, upload listing photos, organize shop sections and shipping profiles, and make new designs in Playground. Changes to live listings wait for your approval first.
The fastest way in is Sandbox → Jobs in Playground. Pick a job, choose Claude or ChatGPT, and it opens with the instructions already written. You can also just type what you want in plain English. Both routes use the same tools.
The Sandbox jobs listed here come straight from that page, grouped the way Playground groups them. Prompts in quotes are things you can paste as-is.
If your shop isn't open yet
Open a new shop from scratch. Everything from no account to a live Etsy shop with its first listing published. If you've been sitting on "I should start an Etsy shop" since spring, this is the one.
Name my shop. Ten names that pass Etsy's naming rules, aren't already taken, clear a trademark check, and have matching social handles free. That last part saves an annoying hour. It's also one of the most-clicked jobs on the page.
Build my shop's look. Shop icon, banner, receipt banner, owner photo direction and shop title, made at the sizes Etsy wants. It pulls from the colors that already sell for you, so it works best once you've got a few sales.
Write my shop's words. About section, announcement, a message to buyers, policies written for print on demand, and an FAQ. In your voice, not a template's.
Sort my shop into sections buyers search. Up to 20 sections, each named with phrases buyers actually type, and every listing moved into the right one. A section called "Shirts" matches nothing a buyer types. "Retro Teacher Shirts" does.
Set up my shipping profiles. One profile per Printify provider per product, with the right processing time, destinations and prices, and every listing assigned. Needs Printify connected too.
If you're not sure what to make next
Why isn't my shop selling?
This reads every listing's views, favorites and sales and tells you whether your problem is traffic or conversion. One answer. If you're stuck, start here, because the fix for "nobody sees it" and the fix for "people see it and leave" are completely different.
What am I not showing up for? Compares what your buyer searches for against what your shop actually ranks for, then hands back the gaps with a design idea attached to each one. Pair it with RankHero for real keyword data.
Who am I actually selling to? Builds your buyer out of your own sales and review text, then looks at places like Reddit, Pinterest and TikTok for what they're buying that nobody's making yet.
What do I make more of, and what do I let go? Ranks listings by what you keep, explains why the winners win, and prices out what the dead listings are costing you in renewal fees. Brutal. Useful.
Build me a collection for a holiday or event. Tells you first whether you've already missed the holiday (a rare thing for a tool to admit), then plans a set of products that sell together. Working on Christmas right now? Our holiday gift guide has 12 niches worth pointing it at.
If you're ready to design
Make me designs that will sell. The most-used design job. It works out what's missing in your niche, figures out whether words or pictures sell in it, then makes the designs in Playground ready to print. You'll see them land on your Board as they're made.

Show me templates my buyer would stop on. Researches your buyer across ten places they already shop and pulls 20 Playground templates built on what came back. Good when you want a head start instead of a blank canvas.
Is this design worth making? One verdict on one design: list it, change it, or leave it, checked against demand, saturation and trademark. Run this before you spend an evening on something.
More of what already sold. Finds out why your best seller sells, then makes six more designs that sell for the same reason without copying it.
If you have a design and want it live
Build the whole listing for me.
Takes a design all the way to an Etsy draft: the Printify product, colors, price, title, tags and description. You approve before anything goes live. This one needs both Etsy and Printify connected.
Mockups that look like a real photo. Swaps Printify's plain mockup for shots that look like someone photographed them, as a flat lay or a styled product shot, in your real garment and colors.

Put my best seller on more products. Finds your top design, checks which Printify products sell best, and tests your design on the ones your buyer would also buy. Tee to sweatshirt to mug, that kind of thing.
If something's live and not working
They favorite it and don't buy it. Finds listings people saved but didn't buy in the last 30 days and tells you which lever to pull on each. Price, photos, title, shipping. Usually one of those four.
Fix the listings I already have. Rewrites titles and tags on the listings nobody can find, then applies them once you approve.
Am I making money on this? What you actually keep on every sale after Printify costs and Etsy fees, plus the price each listing needs to be. Run it before you put anything on sale.
Read my listing like a buyer would. Walks your live listing the way a shopper sees it and finds the one spot they leave.
Finish my listing photos. Brings thin listings up to a full photo set: realistic shots, a size chart, a color chart, and alt text on every image, uploaded straight to Etsy.
Set my shipping dates for the holidays. Changes your Etsy processing times to match Printify's holiday production times, puts the order-by date where buyers will see it, then changes everything back afterward. Run it in early November, before the December rush.
What does a real Etsy session with Claude look like?
A typical Sandbox session on Etsy takes about 25 minutes: find out why the shop is slow, rewrite the weakest titles and tags, approve the good ones, fill in missing listing photos, then plan new designs. Here's that session for a shop with 40 listings and a slow October:
- "Why isn't my shop selling?" The answer: traffic is fine on the bestsellers, but 22 listings got under 30 views in a month. A findability problem, not a conversion one.
- "Fix the listings I already have, starting with the 10 lowest-view ones." You get a before and after for each title and its 13 tags.
- You approve seven, skip three. The seven go live on Etsy in one batch. The other three stay as they were.
- "Finish my listing photos on those seven." Each one gets a size chart, a color chart and alt text.
- "Build me a collection for Christmas." It plans six designs that sell together and makes the first two on your Board.
No tabs, no copying tags between windows, and every change waited for your yes.
What can Sandbox see and change in your Etsy shop?
Sandbox can read your Etsy listings, sales, shipping profiles, attributes and shop settings, and it can create drafts, edit listings, upload photos and set attributes. It can't delete listings, read buyer messages, issue refunds or touch payment details. Every edit to a live listing waits for your approval. The full list:
| What it covers | |
|---|---|
| Reads | Your shops and shop snapshot, every listing and its full details, sales, shipping profiles, production partners, listing attributes (color, size and so on), Etsy's category list, and your processing-time profiles |
| Changes | Creates draft listings, updates existing listings, uploads listing photos, sets listing attributes, and applies a batch of approved edits in one go |
| Can't do | Delete listings, read or send buyer messages, issue refunds, or touch your payment and bank details |
The Etsy permissions behind that, in plain English:
| What Etsy asks you to allow | What Sandbox uses it for |
|---|---|
| See all your listings, including expired ones | Shop snapshots, audits, finding weak listings |
| Create and edit listings | New drafts, title and tag rewrites, photos, attributes |
| See private shop info | Sections, shipping profiles, processing times |
| Update your shop | Shop sections, About text, announcement |
Rewrites and new listings follow an approve-first pattern: new listings arrive as Etsy drafts, and rewrite jobs show you the changes before applying them. Sandbox only works on the shop you authorized.
Does Etsy allow AI-made designs and listings?
Yes. Etsy's Creativity Standards allow AI-assisted designs under "Designed by a seller" when the design comes from your own prompts and edits, as long as you disclose AI use in the listing description and list your print provider as a production partner. Here's how to stay inside the rules:
- Disclose AI. If a design was made with AI tools, say so in the listing description. One line does it: "Design created with AI design tools and finished by [your shop name]."
- Make it yours. Designs from your own prompts and edits count as "Designed by a seller." Change the phrase, the colors and the layout on any template you start from.
- List your production partner. Print on demand sellers need their print provider listed as a production partner. The listing jobs can check this for you.
- Respect the field limits. Titles max out at 140 characters (Etsy now recommends under 15 words), and you get 13 tags of up to 20 characters each. The rewrite jobs stick to both.
Etsy's usual fees still apply. Per Etsy's fee schedule, publishing a draft costs the standard $0.20 listing fee, and sales carry Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee plus payment processing.
How do you get better results from Claude or ChatGPT on Etsy?
Better results from Sandbox on Etsy come from naming the job, limiting the scope, approving edits in small batches, starting a fresh chat for each job and skipping per-action approval prompts. Here's each habit in practice:
- Name the job. "Run the why-isn't-my-shop-selling job" gets you the full recipe. "Help my shop" gets you a pep talk.
- Give it a scope. "Just my 10 newest listings" or "only listings with under 50 views" finishes faster and keeps the edits reviewable.
- Approve in batches. Let it rewrite 15 titles, read them, approve. Don't ask for all 140 at once on a Saturday night.
- Start a fresh chat per job. Long chats drift. A clean chat with one job in it stays sharp.
- Turn off per-action approvals in your assistant. In Claude or ChatGPT's connector settings, set Playground to always allow actions. Your Etsy changes still wait for your approval inside the chat. You just won't click "allow" on every read.
What if the Etsy connection isn't working?
Most Etsy connection problems come down to three things: the Etsy card on Playground's Connectors page doesn't say Connected, the assistant is looking at the wrong shop, or Playground wasn't named in the chat. Each fix takes under a minute.
"It says my Etsy shop isn't connected." Open the Connectors page and check the Etsy card. If it doesn't say Connected, click Connect and grant access again. Make sure you're signed in to the same Playground account in both places.
"It found the wrong shop." Ask "list my Etsy shops," then say "use [shop name] for everything in this chat."
"Etsy couldn't find that item." Usually a mix-up between IDs. Ask it to look the listing up by title instead, or paste the listing link.
"It won't make anything." Mention Playground by name once in the chat ("use Playground to..."). After that it remembers.
How much does it cost to connect Etsy to ChatGPT or Claude?
Connecting Etsy to Claude or ChatGPT through Playground is free. ChatGPT's Developer mode needs a paid ChatGPT plan, and Claude works on any plan. Playground's free plan includes 10 image generations every 3 hours for personal use, and selling designs on Etsy needs Playground Pro at $12 a month billed annually.
Playground Pro carries the commercial license. Start free, learn the jobs, upgrade before your first listing goes live.
What else can you connect besides Etsy?
Etsy is the storefront, and Playground Sandbox has three more connectors for the rest of a print-on-demand stack: Printify and Printful for making products, and RankHero for Etsy keyword research. All of them work inside the same Claude or ChatGPT chat:
- Printify: create, price and publish products from your designs.
- Printful: turn designs into Printful products and mockups.
- RankHero: Etsy keyword research, rank checks and SEO audits inside the same chat.
Frequently asked questions
Can I connect my Etsy shop to ChatGPT?
Yes. Add Playground to ChatGPT as a custom connector using https://playgroundai.com/mcp (Developer mode has to be on, which needs a paid plan), then connect Etsy from Playground's Connectors page. The same steps work for Claude.
Can ChatGPT access my Etsy shop?
Only if you connect it. Plain ChatGPT can't see your shop. Through Playground Sandbox, it can read your listings and sales and make the edits you approve.
Is this the same as the Etsy app in ChatGPT?
No. Etsy's app in ChatGPT, in beta since May 2026, helps shoppers search and buy. It doesn't manage a shop. Playground Sandbox is the seller side: your listings, your data, your edits.
Can buyers still check out on Etsy inside ChatGPT?
Not right now. ChatGPT Instant Checkout launched with Etsy in September 2025, and OpenAI paused it in March 2026. Shoppers now click through to Etsy to buy.
Do I need an Etsy API key or developer account?
No. You sign in through Etsy's own authorization screen and click Grant access. Playground handles the technical side.
Is there an Etsy MCP server I can use without coding?
Yes. Playground's MCP server at https://playgroundai.com/mcp connects Etsy to Claude or ChatGPT with no code. You paste one URL and click Connect.
Does it work on Claude's free plan?
Yes. Claude's free plan allows one custom connector, which is all you need for Playground.
Is it safe to connect Etsy to an AI assistant?
You authorize through Etsy's own sign-in screen, so your Etsy password never passes through Playground or the AI. New listings land as drafts, rewrite jobs ask for your approval before changing anything live, and Sandbox can't delete listings or touch payments.
Can it publish listings without my approval?
No. New listings arrive as Etsy drafts, and rewrite jobs show you every change first. Nothing goes live until you say so.
Does Etsy allow AI-generated designs?
Yes, as long as you disclose AI use in the listing description and the design comes from your own prompts and edits. That counts as "Designed by a seller" under Etsy's Creativity Standards.
Will AI-written titles and tags follow Etsy's limits?
Yes. The rewrite jobs keep titles under 140 characters (and aim for Etsy's under-15-words guidance) and fill 13 tags of up to 20 characters each.
Does Sandbox work without Printify?
Mostly. Reading your shop, finding search gaps, rewriting titles and tags, and the data jobs all work with Etsy alone. Anything that creates a new product, like Build the whole listing for me or shipping profile setup, needs Printify connected too.
How do I disconnect Etsy?
You can remove Playground's access from your Etsy account settings at any time. Reconnecting later takes one click on the Connectors page.
Can I use it from my phone?
Once the connection is set up on a computer, yes. The Claude phone app uses connectors you've added on the web.
I have two Etsy shops. Does that work?
Ask "list my Etsy shops" in a fresh chat and tell it which one you want before starting a job. It works on the shop you name.
Do I need to know anything about MCP?
No. MCP is the standard that lets Claude and ChatGPT talk to outside tools, and Playground handles all of it. You paste one URL and click Connect.
Ready? Connect your Etsy shop and run Why isn't my shop selling? first. New to Playground? Start designing for free.
